It could be close to the surface or over 3 ft deep. If it is over 3 ft deep you would need to hire someone with a machine to machine excavate the lids for you. It depends on the depth and also what kind of soil you have on the property. If it is hard digging it would require more time.
95% of septic tanks have 2 lids unless it was installed before the 1970’s it may only have one lid.
